What is the NELSD levy renewal?

The Northeastern Local School District (NELSD) is requesting a renewal of the 1% Earned Income School Tax Levy on May 6, 2025. This is not a new tax; it simply continues the existing levy that supports school operations.

Why is this levy renewal important?

This levy provides 17% of the district’s funding (approximately $6 million per year) and helps maintain:

• Teacher salaries and benefits
• Student programs and activities
• Classroom supplies
• Transportation services
• Technology upgrades
• Utilities and building maintenance

Losing this funding would significantly impact educational services in the district.

Will this increase my taxes?

No, this is a renewal, meaning your tax rate stays the same. The levy will continue for another 10 years at the current rate.

Who pays this tax?

This earned income tax applies only to:

It does NOT apply to:

Is this levy the same as the bond issue?

No, they are separate.

The Earned Income Tax Levy (renewed in 2015) funds daily school operations like teacher salaries, transportation, and supplies.

The Bond Issue (passed in 2018) funded new school buildings and athletic facility improvements.
